BeardSmoke Mini-Un Smokers On Location!

sosij

The last of the years sun was shining, lockdown was over ( for now!! ) so a few of us decided to jump in the vans and take off to the nearby village of Castleton in Derbyshire for the night.

A good hike to blow the cobwebs off, a feast and a few beers around the campfire under the stars whilst putting the world to rights was just what the doctor ordered....

Camp set upOf course we arrived at Rowter Farm campsite just in time for the sun to go in and the heavens to open!

There was nothing for it, open a beer, load up the smoker with a pork shoulder for a low n slow cook and discuss the plan of action...

sun arrived

The sun decided to come back out and the skies cleared just in time so off we marched...

heading offRoute planned we set off up Mam Tor for the start of our hike...

Mam Tor peak viewBeautiful view from the top of Mam Tor showing the remnants of the broken road...

ridge walkWe headed off along the ridge...

beer stopA quick refreshment stop n time for a mug shot...

getting comfortableor two! We were staring to get comfortable so time to get back in the saddle...

hot sun Back in the bottom, the sun was high and i was starting to wonder if should book myself a taxi back!...

cavedaleThe last scramble back up Cavedale and my legs decided to burn, i started to think of how much extra timber i was carrying from the Lockdown garden cooks!! Only the faint whiff of slow roasting pork shoulder wafting across the tops kept me going as if i was being pulled along by my nostrils...

rum and fireBack at camp the fire was lit and the Rum was poured, the pork shoulder was inhaled and it was at this point we realised we hadn't taken any pics to show!!

flame and bratswe threw on a pack of chilli brats and got settled down to relax around the campfire...

Chilli bratwurstPerfect easy campfire food!

Castleton Camping cookI look at this picture every time the lockdown starts to give me the winter blues and it reminds me of good times to come, the hills, summer nights, great food and good times, summer nights around a campfire under the stars with mates, a few beers and a good rum..

Next year i'll get better pictures and be fitter for the hike maybe... Maybe...
